OPay to block accounts not linked to BVN/NIN

Opay has announced it would block customer accounts that are yet adhere to KYC regulations

One of Nigeria's leading financial technology companies, Opay, has announced that non-compliant customers with the Know Your Customer (KYC) directive of NIN-BVN linkage of tier-1 accounts will be unable to carry out transactions from March 1. 2024. This was made known during a media briefing in Lagos on Wednesday.

Director of Partnership for Opay, Ik Kolawole Odiase, said by March 1, any account holder non-compliant with the directive to link his/her BVN and NIN would be logged out of the platform. Explaining that it was part of plans to implement the Know Your Customer (KYC) directive by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Also, according to the Director, Ik Kolawole Odiase, by March 1, any account holder non-compliant with the directive to link his/her BVN and NIN would be logged out of the platform.

Ik Kolawole Odiase also said the platform has introduced a series of innovations and security measures to protect depositors’ funds, saying, “We are concerned about the safety of depositors’ funds.

Hence, from March 1, 2024, customers who fail to update their accounts with their BVN or NIN requirement will be restricted.
