Visa awards Safaricom with a payment facilitator certificate allowing merchants access to more payment options

Global payment giant, Visa has awarded Safaricom PLC a payment facilitator certificate, marking a pivotal step in their ongoing collaboration. This agreement aims to enhance Safaricom's merchant ecosystem by expanding payment acceptance options, including the introduction of card payments that support all card networks through Visa's CyberSource Payment Gateway.

The partnership between Visa and Safaricom began with the launch of the M-PESA GlobalPay Virtual Visa Card in June 2022, which now enables Safaricom merchants to offer a broader range of payment options, utilizing Visa's payment technology to service customers more efficiently and securely.

Hence, this project is part of the long-term cooperation which began in 2022. Visa says that the partnership will continue to evolve, bringing new payment solutions to market.
