iTGamers: Sony's PlayStation Portal

Gamers! Here's all you need to know about the portable PlayStation Portal

In 2023, Sony again dipped its toes in the portable gaming scene. Last year, the company announced that it would launch a new portable gaming system called PlayStation Portal. The PlayStation Portal was first unveiled as Project Q during the PlayStation Showcase event in May 2023.

The system is designed around the PlayStation Remote Play service, allowing PlayStation 5 (PS5) owners to play their PS5 games anywhere connected to Wi-Fi.

Sony notes that the PlayStation Portal requires internet Wi-Fi with at least 5Mbps. However, it also recommends a high-speed connection of at least 15Mbps for a better experience.

Hardware:

The PlayStation Portal

The PlayStation Portal looks like a stretched-out DualSense Controller with a big touch screen in the middle. Its screen measures 8 inches and can display 1080p resolution at 60fps. Furthermore, the device also comes with all the bells and whistles of the standard DualSense controller, including features such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. Other features include a USB Type-C port for charging. There is also a 3.5mm headset jack for audio.

Price and availability:

The PlayStation Portal is globally priced at $199.99 (approximately Rs 16,500). Meanwhile, the PS Pulse Elite headset and PS Pulse Explore earbuds are priced at $149.99 USD (approximately Rs 12,400) and $199.99 (approximately Rs 16,500), respectively. In Nigeria, the PlayStation Portal's price ranges from N450,000 to N800,000. It is available at several digital stores like Jiji.com, Jumia, and others.
