Senate to screen CBN Governor-nominee, Cardoso, Today

The Nigerian Senate is set to screen the CBN governor nominee today

The  Senate is set to screen the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Olayemi Cardoso, for confirmation into a substantive capacity alongside four nominees for the positions of CBN Deputy Governors to steer affairs of the apex bank in the next five years. The screening date was disclosed via a statement from the media office of the Senate.

In a statement by the Media Office of the Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele said,

“The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will resume plenary on Tuesday, September 26. We will consider the screening of Dr. Cardoso at the Committee of the whole.

“Dr. Cardoso will be screened alongside four deputy governors, namely Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Mr Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Mr Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello”.

Noteworthy, President Bola Tinubu had on 15th September 2023 nominated Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso to assume the role of Governor for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). However, the five-year appointment is subject to the endorsement of the Nigerian Senate, in compliance with Section 8 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.
