MTN announces tier 4 data centre in Nigeria

MTN Nigeria has announced plans to further expand and enhance Nigeria's digital infrastructure with the new 1,500-rack Tier 4 data centre currently under construction. This initiative by MTN is part of a broader trend of data centre development across Africa.

The facility will be designed to meet the growing data demands and digital needs of businesses and consumers nationwide. As a Tier 4 data centre, it is expected to offer the highest level of reliability with 99.995% uptime, capable of withstanding a wide range of potential disruptions across industries.

MTN Nigeria's Chief Technical Officer, Mohammed Rufai, emphasized the critical need for expanded data processing capabilities due to significant data usage growth and new services' emergence.

The data centre will serve as a vital resource for businesses across Nigeria, allowing them to forgo maintaining their server rooms and instead leverage MTN's facility for their digital operations.

This development is expected to enhance content delivery from major tech companies like Meta and Google, bringing content closer to Nigerian and West African users and improving access speeds.
